His real self, although still genuinely kindhearted, is more masculine and a lot more jaded. On his route, she eventually learns that "Rei" is a persona that Reiji Uraga deliberately created to hold others at arm's length and discourage women from throwing themselves at him.
Beneath the Mask: In season 2, the protagonist comes to think of Rei Arisugawa as a "dependable big sister" thanks to his feminine manner of speaking and how unfailingly he's willing to listen and give her helpful advice. It's a surprisingly dark plot in what is, overall, a light-hearted game. Attempted Rape: On Ryuzo's route, the protagonist runs afoul of a stalker who simply will not take "no" for an answer. Always Second Best: Ichigo has an uncomfortable relationship with his older brother Togo, in large part because, unlike Ichigo who has trouble expressing his feelings, Togo is good with people, and is easily welcomed back by their parents and the rest of the neighborhood despite having previously abandoned them to travel the world. Affectionate Nickname: Takeshi calls the protagonist "Little Duck.". As she rekindles her old friendships, she begins to see unexpected sides to the guys she's known since forever, and old childhood crushes just might blossom into romance.ĭreamy Days in West Tokyo contains examples of the following tropes: After ten years, however, they've grown up into young men. Upon her return, she finds that many of her childhood friends still live in the neighborhood, and they still remember her. It tells the story of a young woman, the player character, returning to her old neighborhood after moving away ten years ago when she was a young child. The premise of this game is that you spent your early childhood in a small town, and were childhood friends with the guys in the game except Johji (his route might reveal something different). The time for us that was put on hold is beginning again.ĭreamy Days in West Tokyo is a Romance Game Visual Novel from Voltage, Inc. You move back 10 years later and become reaquainted with your childhood pals. The game is very similar to LLfTX, MFW and MSB, in that it has a more lighthearted feel and tone to it. That’s not to say it doesn’t have it’s dramatic moments, but it’s not in the same realm of drama and heaviness that KoR and IYAT are. As with many other Voltage games, the group dynamic is what provides most of the humor to the game. The guys are at their funniest when they’re all hanging out together. The romance is a little bit different from some of Voltage’s other games. The characters are all in high school, and as such there is no sexual tension. It’s all about meeting your first love again, so it’s a very pure and sweet romance. This will probably change in the second season when the characters are older and out of high school.Īt least it is in Haruki’s route, but I suspect it’s like that in all the routes given the ages of the characters. The game also adds a new element in little cut scenes that play between certain chapters. These show scenes from when the characters were children, and the MC still lived in the same town. I really enjoyed these, mostly because the sprites of the guys as kids are so darn cute. Rihito and Ichigo were especially adorable as children. It’s also nice to see what the dynamic between the MC and guys were like when they were kids, and gives some context to how their relationships are in the current day.
Haruki as a character fits the archetype of Mr. He’s smart, he’s athletic, and he’s kind to everyone.
All the girls in school have a crush on him, and all the boys respect him.
